Hello, My name is XYZ. I find it utterly narcissistic to indulge in minutes of talking about ,and introducing myself, but if I have to describe myself in a word, it would be 'persistent'. I , believe that one who is making a progress, should not be discouraged. His progress should not be judged by whether he is pacing fast or taking one step at a time. As long as he is persistent in moving forth, he is in the right direction. Being the elder sister among four of my siblings, I always had to stand up and make decisions about the well being of all. Growing up, there was a time when my mother had to work three jobs to sustain our family. She couldn't afford to attend each of us individually. At these time, I had to take responsibility and look after the house chores, school homework of my siblings, attending my extra curricular actovities while preparing for high school examination, etc. These were developmental milestone for me, as not only I became self independent(psychologically), I managed to encorporate leadership qualities since a very young age.
I admire the transformational leadership skills of Dr.Martin Luther King. His Transformational leadership quality involved each and every. It worked on the virtue of inclusion and unity , which I think is very much needed in today's society. He not only challenged the status quo, paving a pathway to a new democracy and racial justice, but also encouraged his followers to " continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive”(Martin Luther King). His vision was clear and he motivated everyone to seek the same. During the times of resistance and protest, many of his followers were injured and other died, he kept his words of encouragement and reminded them of the imminent change , their resistance would witness. His leadership style would personally prepare me for leadership role in social work. Inclusion and unity , is what we lack as a society. To bring an effective change in the society, it is essential to be self motivated, have a clear vision to acheive the righteous goal and work towards creating a just society, collectively. Transformational leadership qualities would not only help me in my area of social work, but would also motivate others, who would be working with me.
