Scenario: You are the CEO of MegaGlobe Business Solutions, a financial consulting corporation based in Chicago that has just recently opened new offices in São Paulo, Brazil and Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. As part of this transition, your employees will now be working collaboratively with employees at these locations to provide financial consulting services in these new markets. To assist with the transition, you will develop an internal leadership blog for your employees that addresses the implications of leading within a culturally-diverse and changing global business environment. This blog should focus on the need to positively adapt to a variety of leadership styles and individual differences within these cultures.

Globalisation of economy and advancements in information technology has enabled us to excel in our businesses and creating value for our customers by delivering them world class service across the globe. However, the path to becoming a global organisation has its own challenges. Everyone working in a global multicultural setting should know and these challenges and equip himself / herself to be successful while negotiating them.

As a leader preparing to work in a different geography, it is always good to know the cultural attributes and social structure of the host country. Knowing the ettiquettes, customs, styles of communication, social interactions among the groups and individuals are some attributes that give initial advantage to a leader to know his future colleagues, associates and partners beforehand in some aspects. It will also help to establish relations and managing them succseefully, which is essential for the growth of business.

Next task at workplace is to ensure harmony and synergy betwen the members, who differ in terms of language, race, color, ethnicity, gender and country of origin. The best way is to nurture the culture of respect for other languages, cultures, way of life, skin color, so that everyone can contribute to the growth of organisation. Maintaining zero tolerance for the aberrations will help to maintain a congenial work environment. Together, this can do wonders to the overall business performance, as a greater diversity of ideas,viewpoints, perceptions, beliefs and variety of contribution results in a rich quality of input that can help to resolve critical business problems.

Team motivation is essential for sustainable business performance. In a multicultural environment, it is essential to analyse the motivational factors in different cultural settings, and apply the best combination of motivational efforts to make the workplace more inspiring, giving rise to high performances. The leader should identify the potentials, nurture them and help the employee to excel in their work through empowerment, involvement, appreciation and rewards.
