Expert Solution

Definition- The chemical industry comprises that produce industrial chemicals. It converts raw material into more than 70000 products.

The chemical industry creates an immense variety of products which impinge on virtually every aspect of our lives. While many of the products from the industry, such as detergents, soaps and perfumes, are purchased directly by the consumer others are used as intermediates to make other products, For example, in Europe, 70% of chemicals manufactured are used to make products by other industries including other branches of the chemical industry itself. The industry uses a wide range of raw materials, from air and minerals to oil.

The products of the chemical industry can be divided into three categories:

  1. Basic Chemicals
  2. Speciality chemicals
  3. Consumer Chemicals

Basic Chemicals - Basic Chemicals are divided into Petrochemicals, polymers and basic inorganics .

Speciality Chemicals- The category covers wide verity of chemicals like pesticides, paints, inks, color pigments etc.

Consumer Chemicals- these Chemical are sold directly to the public. For example soap, detergent, and other essential things.
