define and describe the main, basic issue of mind-body problem
The mind is the internal aspect and the body is the external aspect of an individual. The problem here is to define whether the mind controls the body or the body controls the mind? The mind is about the mental processes and the body is about the materialistic aspects of the brain. So, the mind-body problem is about how they interact with each other.
Many theories have been put forward to explain this phenomenon. One such theory is called as the dualism. The dualism theory basically states that mind and body are two different entities. Mind takes care of the functions of mental processes and the body takes care of the functions of the heart and the like. This theory proposes that mind influences the body in many ways to act or react, but the body can also influence the way mind functions. If the body is hurt, it affects mind. So, though both mind and body are two separate entities they both influence each other.
The other uncommon theory is called the Monomism. It proposes that either Materialism or the Phenomalism exists. Both the mind and body can’t exist together. Its, either the body that play a role, or the mind that play a role. And both cant co-exist together.
