Does a media bias exist? If so, is it a liberal or conservative bias? What evidence do you have that this bias exists? Which television stations, newspapers, and radio hosts have a conservative bias? Which ones have a liberal bias? And which ones do a pretty good job of being free from an obvious bias?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Yes. A media bias exist.

In USA, the mainstream media is mainly biased towards the liberal views. At least the popular media are well known to be focused on liberal values and ideas. Many of the popular media corporations such as CNN, NBC, etc. have strong bias towards the democrats and as a result they harbor liberal views. One of the key evidence that we see is that the constant criticism of President Donald Trump. Given that President Trump is quite unorthodox and have been known make a few blunders it is nothing new among the Presidents. Even George Bush was criticized heavily for his simple speeches and wrong English. We often do not see such criticism of Democrat Presidents such as Clinton or Obama. This is why we have evidence that the media tends to bias towards liberals.

However, there are a few bias towards conservative ideas as well. For example, FOX studios tend to have a strong Republican and conservative views. This is often attributed as conservative bias. There are also publications such as Weekly Standard and National Review that have conservative ideas.

When it comes to mainstream media, we do not really have any host or channels that are free from bias. This is because media also needs support of the politicians and thus tends to display a bias to win their favor. When it comes to comparatively bias free media, we should look at independent journalists that often report using podcasts or live video channels.
