How can retail employees be motivated in today’s fastchanging marketplace?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The retail employees can be motivated in today’s fast-changing marketplace in the following ways:

1. Offering staff development opportunities: The businesses, by offering staff development opportunities, can increase their retail employees’ motivation to better themselves and work hard for the business. In today’s world, no person wants to feel that they are stuck in dead-end jobs where there is little or no chance of development. When the employees get an opportunity to learn and work on themselves, they feel motivated.

2. Giving responsibilities to retail employees: Giving responsibility to the retail employees related to those areas of the shop in which they show interest is one of the ways to motivate them. It not only provides a source of motivation to them but also an opportunity to grow. For instance, if an employee is specifically interested in creating window displays, allowing him/her to design some ideas related to the same can encourage and motivate him/her towards the work.

3. Making employees feel respected and valued: By letting retail employees know how much they contribute to the business and the difference they make, one can motivate them. It makes the employees feel that they are respected and valued. The acknowledgment of contribution can be reinforced by providing regular feedback and appraisals to the employees.
