Please answer prompts in three to four sentences. It is for my sociology of aging course.
Prompt Four:
What is ageism and how is its continuation perpetuated?
Prompt Five:
What are some of the ways that older Americans differ regarding health, marital status, income/poverty, and aging?
Ageing is the natural part of the development and physiological growth cycle of an organism. People who retire after 65 years of age are called aged people. Now, ageism refers to the stereotyping and discrimination against the aged people because of their age. It is practiced either systematically by pointing out their physical, mental and psychological inability to cope and complete tasks successfully.
Compared to elders in other countries, American elders normally live independently because there is enough social support such as housing, medical care and other emergency services. There are also differences among the elders in terms of their race, socio-economic status and physical wellbeing. There are also other homes and nursing services that take care of the elders who need more assistance. Most of them are living alone and they also do some voluntary services, spend time in reading, gardening and spending time with their grandchildren.
