Whats is PRECEDE-PROCEED Model (phases, predisposing, enabling and reinforcing factors) and give an example of each
The Precede – proceed model was proposed by Lawrence W. Green in
1974 to help health program planners and policy makers to analyse
situations and design, implement and evaluate health programs
effectively. PRECEDE is an acronym for Predisposing, Reinforcing
and Enabling Constructs in Educational Diagnosis and Evaluation
whereas PROCEED means Policy, Regulatory and Organizational
Constructs in Educational and Environmental
Development.
• Predisposing factors include knowledge, attitudes, beliefs,
personal preferences, existing skills and self efficacy towards a
particular behaviour change.
• Reinforcing factors include the ways rewards or reinforcements
are given for a desired behaviour change like social support,
economic rewards and changing social norms.
• Enabling factors are the availability and accessibility of
resources or services that facilitate achievement and provides
motivation to change behaviour.
The Precede- proceed model consists of four planning phases, one
implementation phase and three evaluation phases. They are:
1. Social diagnosis
2. Epidemiology, behavioural and environmental diagnosis
3. Educational and ecological diagnosis
4. Administrative and policy diagnosis
5. Implementation
6. Process evaluation
7. Impact evaluation
8. Outcome evaluation
