Democratic values

Democratic values include the fundamental beliefs and the constitutional principles of our society. Democratic values emphasizes on the equality of various cultures within the society, environment protection and the social safety. Democratic values includes the voting rights of the people for choosing their government, rights of minority, diversity, justice and equality, religious secularism and the rule of law.

A core example of democratic values is represented by a country of India where:

1. People can live their own life as they desire to live without violating the rules and harming the life of other individuals. The rules for resisting violation are controlled by the police department.

2. People can make their own choices as far as following a particular religion and culture is concerned. In India, people can express their opinion in public and they can give their feedback for a particular government.

3. People can achieve their goals unless these goals intersect with that of the others.

4. People are treated equally without any kind of bias between them by the judicial system of the country.

5. People are not discriminated on the basis of minority and their other demographic characteristics.

6. India celebrates variety of cultures including that of the different religions of the world.

Professional values or professionalism are the values associated with the ethical standards at the work, honesty and integrity at the work, self motivated to achieve the personal goals as well as the goals of the organisation, responsible behaviour and adaptability.

A professional organisation which is engaged in the provision of the educational degrees to the students is the SLR Institute of Professional studies. The institute takes admission of the students through centralised process of the government on the basis of the merit score obtained by the students in their entrance exam. The fee of the institute is fixed by the government and the institute does not charge an extra amount from the students and does not include any hidden charges. Institute displays the fees structure on the student’s notice board. Institute has various committees such as anti ragging committee which has the members of the social bodies, college staff and the students and their parents. This transparency and proper management of the institute make its environment professional. Moreover, institute pay the teachers as per the labour regulations of the governing body and offer them the various benefits from time to time as per the governing law. The institute comply with all the regulations of the affiliated university to show its adaptability and its motivation for its personal growth as well as the growth of the university.

Ethical values are the one on the basis of which we make our choices in our life. These values define an act being right or wrong. Ethical values include honesty, respect, responsibility, justice, etc.

A market researcher, John Spring, works with SDM organisation which makes smart phones. John Spring is given a task to complete the survey of 8000 smart phone users in the city of California by using the online and offline medium. John starts the survey very next day with the questionnaire provided by the company. However, while conducting the survey, John finds that the respondents are not interested in filling the questionnaire and that he is running late as per the deadlines provided by the company. John distributes the offline questionnaire to some of his friends in large numbers and gets them filled from them and John himself fills and submits large number of online questionnaire to meet the deadlines given by the company.

Above case of marketing research have several ethical issues where ethical values have not been followed by John in his task. His conduct of getting the questionnaire filled from his friends and by himself is completely wrong and unethical and shows the irresponsibility and dishonesty towards his work and disrespect and injustice towards his job and the organisation.

People values are the personal values that they think are appropriate and good for them. Generally, people values include fulfilling physiological or basic needs, need of acquiring the knowledge, getting love and respect from the others, financial security and the personal growth.
