Leadership and power are some of the main characteristics that have been talked about in the Song of Roland. It is indeed indespensable for a leader to well spoken, charismatic and strong. These are the three features that have been profoundly covered in the ideal knight during the reign of Charlemagne. He was someone who was pleasant to foreigners, and had his way to charm his people, however his major motive during the reign was to define the Christian religion and create a space for it. “Roland was loyal, devoted and determined to be a good vassal.” This a quote from the time and is an evidence or a proof to the fact that an ideal knight during Charlemagne’s reign was to have character traits of loyalty, devotion, and determination to carry out the duties expected of him. Both of them, Roland and Charlemagne were people who had deep amount of respect for one another and could go to any length to serve their people. In the Song its clear that Roland lost his life as a sacrifice for his people. His strength and power is something that is an inspiration to the generations to come.
