- The early psychological movements that interested me were
'experimental psychology' in which experimental methods were used
to explain the processes that underlie in human psychology. In this
branch of psychology, psychologists use human and animal subjects
to do various experiments in a pursuit to reach meaningful
conclusions. It lead to several insights and findings in the fields
of memory, cognition, learning, emotion and perception. In current
times, the meaning of the phrase has shifted and the experimental
psychology is no longer the same pertaining to the growing
disciplines and sub-disciplines of psychology.
- The current set of theories which interest me are
'psychoanalysis' and 'humanistic psychology'. Psychoanalysis is
majorly related with the various methods that are employed for
studying the unconscious mind and it is used for the treatment of
various mental problems. Whereas, humanistic psychology, explores
an individual's inherent drive for self-actualization. It is a
process that with time helps the individuals to realize and express
their creativity and capabilities.
