Do you think No Child Left Behind was an effective test-based accountability program? Why or why not?
Do you think the United States should pursue more test-based accountability programs? Why or why not?
*The no child left behind (NCLB)Act is a US Federal law that provides money for extra educational assistance for poor children in return for improvements in their academic progress. The program was a test- based accountability program. How ever it was not effective because there is no evidence to prove that it actually improved the situation.NCLB has also shown mixed success in eliminating the racial achievement gap.
*How ever US should not pursue more test based accountability programs.
*Following practices are the reasons for that.
>There is inappropriate test preparation, including coaching students to receive misleadingly high scores and, with alarming frequency, unambiguous cheating.
>strategic manipulation of which students are tested and,of those, tested, which students are most prioritised for accountability purposes.
>Reallocation of time between subjects, emphasizing subjects that are consequential in test based accountability at the expense of that are not
>Gains on high stake tests outpacing gains on low- stakes tests, suggesting that high -stakes tests overstate student's true mastery of the tested domains.
The test scores pressures even render many desirable instruction an act of self sacrifice by teachers, who know that the clearest path to better test scores typically doesn't include the most dynamic, engaging lessons.
