Lewis structure: In a Lewis structure of organic compound, make sure that hydrogen atoms are surrounded by no more than two electrons and other atoms are surrounded by no more than eight electrons. Valence electrons not used in bonding are placed as lone pairs.

Bond line structure: In bond line structure of organiccompounds, carbon and hydrogen atoms are not shown and the representing C-C bonds are drawn in zig-zag fashion. The only atoms specifically written are those that are neither carbon nor hydrogen bonded to carbon. The junctions denote C atoms bonded to appropriate number of hydrogen to make its valency four. The terminals denote methyl(-CH3) groups unless indicated otherwise by a functional groups.
