Describe the physical properties (color and state) of p - aminophenol, acetic anhydride, phosphoric acid; acetaminophen, potassium carbonate and phenacetin.

Solutions

Expert Solution

para-aminophenol
4-Aminophenol (or para-aminophenol or p-aminophenol) is the organic compound with the formula H2NC6H4OH. Typically available as a white powder,it was commonly used as a developer for black-and-white film, marketed under the name Rodinal.
color and state
White or reddish-yellow crystals or light brown powder. Turns violet when exposed to light.Typically available as a white powder

Acetic anhydride,
Acetic anhydride, or ethanoic anhydride, is the chemical compound with the formula (CH3CO)2O. Commonly abbreviated Ac2O, it is the simplest isolable anhydride of a carboxylic acid and is widely used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It is a colorless liquid that smells strongly of acetic acid, which is formed by its reaction with moisture in the air.
Phosphoric Acid
Phosphoric Acid is a colorless, odorless phosphorus-containing inorganic acid. Phosphoric acid is a sequestering agent which binds many divalent cations, including Fe++, Cu++, Ca++, and Mg++. Phosphoric acid is used in dentistry and orthodontics as an etching solution, to clean and roughen the surfaces of teeth where dental appliances or fillings will be placed. In addition, phosphoric acid is a constituent in bone and teeth, and plays a role in many metabolic processes.
The most common source of phosphoric acid is an 85% aqueous solution; such solutions are colourless, odourless, and non-volatile. The 85% solution is a syrupy liquid, but still pourable. Although phosphoric acid does not meet the strict definition of a strong acid, the 85% solution is acidic enough to be corrosive. Because of the high percentage of phosphoric acid in this reagent, at least some of the orthophosphoric acid is condensed into polyphosphoric acids; for the sake of labeling and simplicity, the 85% represents H3PO4 as if it were all in the ortho form. Dilute aqueous solutions of phosphoric acid exist in the ortho form.
Acetaminophen
Acetaminophen is a p-aminophenol derivative with analgesic and antipyretic activities.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Odorless white crystalline solid. Bitter taste. pH (saturated aqueous solution) about 6
POTASSIUM CARBONATE
Potassium carbonate (K2CO3) is a white salt(COLOURLESS HYGROSCOPIC CRYSTALS OR HYGROSCOPIC WHITE POWDER.), soluble in water (insoluble in ethanol) which forms a strongly alkaline solution. It can be made as the product of potassium hydroxide's absorbent reaction with carbon dioxide. It is deliquescent, often appearing a damp or wet solid. Potassium carbonate is used in the production of soap and glass.
Phenacetin
Phenacetin is a synthetic, white crystalline solid that is slightly soluble in water and benzene, soluble in acetone and very soluble in pyrimidine. It is used in research as the preferred marker for detecting CYP1A2-based inhibition potential in vitro. Human ingestion of phenacetin can result in a bluish discoloration of the skin due to a lack of oxygen in the blood (cyanosis), dizziness and respiratory depression. It is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen. (NCI05)
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Odorless fine white crystalline solid with a lightly bitter taste. Used as an analgesic medicine.
