philosophy Scenario 1) You are a doctor. Your friend, Oscar, is also a doctor. You and Oscar have a long history together. You tell each other everything. You try to work the same shifts. You exercise together. Oscar was an important part of your wedding. Oscar’s kids and yours are also best friends. Oscar even supported you when you were falsely accused of negligence, thus saving your job, your future, your kids’ future, and your very sense of well-being. Unfortunately, Oscar got drunk one day before a scheduled surgery and made a fatal mistake. You saw Oscar right after the surgery, and you are certain that he was in fact drunk. What do you do? What virtues, either Aristotle’s, yours developed above, or one you have not thought of apply? Are there conflicting virtues? How do you adjudicate between them?

Although it is a long standing friendship and Oscar helped me when i was accuseed of negligence. I was falsely accused which was easy to explain in front of the management. But in another situation Oscar made a genuine mistake, even if he didnt mean to, he did made a fatal mistake of getting drunk and performing the surgery. If he was not feeling well he could have asked someone else to perform the surgery in his place, rather he did it himself. Personal life and professional are meant to be kept apart whether it comes to friendship or any other relation, they have to be kept apart for the sake of unbiasedness and genuiness.

Even if the conflict arises it would be for friendship and for the support he gave to me when i was falsely accused but knowing that he made the mistake knowingly is not something to be kept within and this Oscar has to understand that he made a mistake and he has to learn from this mistake in order to grow.
