Respond to the following hypothetical scenario. Your doctor informs you that your brain has grown too large for your skull. You will survive, as long as they operate right away. The doctor states that s/he must take out one part of the brain to make space. You must decide which part of the brain you could best live without. Which brain part would you give up and why?
You must decide which part of the brain you could best live without. Which brain part would you give up and why?
I can live without cerebellum (a part of brain). So, this part of brain I would give up through my brain surgery.
My reasons are
following:
(1)Even though the cerebellum has so many neurons and takes up so
much space, it is possible to survive without it.
(2)Then, after surgery, I would live life a bit differently than the rest of others.
(3)Cerebellum helps coordinate motion and ensures that you remain balanced and controlled in daily life. When the motor cortex in our cerebrum tells part of our body to move, the cerebellum makes sure that motion happens in the right way. So, without cerebellum, I would find a bit difficulty in a lot of motions happening in daily life.
(4)I would be able to walk but fine motor skills like writing, typing, and speaking would become a challenge. My speech will remain never quite perfect and my handwriting will always be a bit off. My reaction time would become slow and I would not be able to drive cars or ride bikes.
(5)I would have trouble developing deep, complex relationships like most of us form with our spouses, best friends, and partners. I would lack emotional nuance and complexity, and so would be unable to form these bonds.
(6)But my brain will adapt remarkably well. With time, my brain & I will adjust for this.
