aDescribe the methods of construction plant and equipment used to erect steel and concrete frames. You must evidence including images and/or drawings of the construction plant and equipment and a statement of the advantages and disadvantages of each.

b Explain the use of steel and concrete frames in superstructures construction. You should include the use of steel and concrete in the context of merits and de-merits including the levels of skilled labour required, lifting and placement requirements and safe working access

c With superstructures comes the height associated with building above ground level.Explain the hazards and risks associated with superstructure activities. This should build on the evidence for Task a and b for this project.

Expert Solution

Answer-A:- Construction plant and equipment used to erect steel and concrete frames:- Now a days generally Crane system are used to erect steel and concrete frames, because crane is very suitable to take the steel and concrete frame at higher height easily without any harm in the precast frame, the choice of crane is based on the available space, type of construction, and availability.

Other method for this purpose is MEWP-"Mobile Elevating Work Platforms"this is also a very good technology for assembling, moving and to erect steel.

Advantage:-

A) Advantage of first method is it makes the erection of steel and concrete frame very easy due to easy handling by a skilled worker

B) It is, economical because moving and assembling frames at that height is very costly by other method as well as there is fear of life safety to work at that height by other technology.

C) MEWP system is also very advantageous for the erection of steel and concrete frames because it is an advance technology which makes all the process smooth and advanced its only requirement is a proper trained and skilled labour, it can lift heavy weight and also it is able to move them from place to place on the construction site.

Disadvantag:-

A) Both the process are very costly because it required skilled workmenship and advance technology.

B) Required many safety practices because many heavy tools and material has to shift from one place to another.

C) Assembling the machine is very difficult and take a lot of time.

Please thumbs up ? for this answer thankyou dear, Have a nice day.

A concrete plant is considering a new piece of equipment with an initial cost of $75,000 and a salvage value of $15,000 at the end of its 25-year useful life. The annual maintenance cost for this piece of equipment is projected to be $10,500. The equipment will produce an annual labor savings of $24,000. What is the approximate projected before-tax rate of return on the equipment?

A portable concrete test instrument used in construction for evaluating and profiling concrete surfaces (MACRS-GDS 5-year property class) is under consideration by a construction firm for $25,500. The instrument will be used for 6 years and be worth $2,500 at that time. The annual cost of use and maintenance will be $13,000. Alternatively, a more automated instrument (same property class) available from the manufacturer costs $26,000, with use and maintenance costs of only $7,500 and salvage value after 6 years...

A specialty concrete mixer used in construction was purchased for $290,000 7 years ago. It is MACRS-GDS 5-year property. Its annual O&M costs are $80,000. At the end of an 8-year planning horizon, the mixer will have a salvage value of $6,500. If the mixer is replaced, a new mixer will require an initial investment of $375,000, and at the end of the 8-year planning horizon, the new mixer will have a salvage value of $45,000.
