Example
A health club only accepts customers who are on the
electoral register. This applies to all customers in the same way.
But Gypsies and Travellers are less likely to be on the electoral
register and therefore they’ll find it more difficult to
join.
This could be indirect discrimination against Gypsies
and Travellers because of the protected characteristic of
race. The rule seems fair, but it has a worse effect on this
particular group of people
A stereotype is an over-generalized belief about a particular category of people. It is an expectation that people might have about every person of a particular group. The type of expectation can vary, it can be for example, an expectation about the group's personality, preferences, or ability.
One of the most infamous anti-American acts against the United States was the 9/11 attacks. American stereotypes were not the main proponent of these attacks, but stereotypes become self-fulfilling and normative. If America is seen as arrogant, power hungry, intrusive, etc then it is perceived that most American individuals exhibit this behavior, at least to some degree, and that the nation as a whole involves itself in situations in which it may have no business interfering.
Racism has affected voting in America since its founding, and it continues to affect voting today.
