The biggest potential risk of prenatal testing is the loss of pregnancy or miscarriage of fetus whiles the condition of the test because prenatal testing involves acquiring of amniotic fluid from around the fetus which can be dangerous for the fetus as well as the carrier of the fetus, i.e. the mother.
Other than this potential risk of prenatal testing, most effects of prenatal testing involves psychological and sociological negative outcomes which may involve trauma on loss of the pregnancy and discovering anomaly with the fetus development inside the womb of the mother. In many cultures around the world, prenatal testing is conducted to examine the sex of the child in order to decide whether or not the fetus will be allowed to develop further and for the same reason the practice of prenatal testing is prohibited in many countries.
The biggest benefit of prenatal testing is the discovery of anomaly in the development of the fetus which can help in dealing with that anomaly on time and maybe suspending its effects after birth, this includes chromosomal disorders such as Down syndrome.
