You have recently graduated and have been employed by a company proposing a cable car from Hobart city to the top of kunanyi / Mt Wellington. The company is developing a strategy to ensure it achieves ‘best practice’ environmental outcomes.
You have been asked to prepare recommendations for spatial data collection, data management and analysis that will contribute to the whole of the project (from the proposal stage to the completed construction).
List and describe at least four examples of spatial data and spatial technologies that you would recommend to the company and that would support its proposal, including its commitment to achieving best-practice environmental outcomes. Justify your recommendations.
Spatial data is also known as the geographical information. It is the data or information that identifies the location of features and boundaries and the technology related to it is about relating the Comparative location if the places. Below are some examples of data and technology that would help company to achieve good outcomes.
1) Global Positioning System : It is a very famous and known spatial technology, commonly known as GPS. These are used to manipulate and analyse the spatial data recorded. It would help to know about the locations of different things and that will help in operating the cable car with more efficiency and good environmental outcomes would come as trees and different vegetation would also be taken care of.
2) Global Information System : it is some how type of positioning system but the difference is that it provides information rather than the position of the things. It is an information or spatial system which can provide measurement of data with a defined context and due to that it is very important in spatial data collection.
3) Satellite Images : satellite images provide the details of the data provided, the above two technology just give the information and positioning of the things where as these images are provided by the satellite to get full details about the structure, forest or the places. It would help in locating the spots where the cable car has to drop or to pickup and save fuel by maintaining the proper route and observing the traffic of public on various location. This fuel saving would also result in betterment of the environment.
4) Road map : it is the simplest technology of spatial data collection as it is not so costly and provide the road details so that the cable car would find it's route accordingly to reach to the public and has max. number of road stations in between the two junctions of the cable.
All the above technology of spatial data are used so that sustainable working is being done and we are able to get the environmental achievements by saving the time, fuel and electricity by obtaining the knowledge of the locations of people, transportation and the road location by the help of spatial data collection and technology.
