(1) Think of (or find) a
medication you have taken or otherwise know about. Research that
medication and report the following:
a. Trade Name and picture of medication
b. Generic Name
c. CAS Number
d. What is it used for?
e. Upload the structure of the molecule to the Resources area in your Workspace and embed it in your post by linking to it. Or, you can directly link to it on the web if the picture is on its own webpage.
f. Identify the common functional groups on your molecule (see Table 18.7 in the text).
g. On what part of the body, system in the body or receptors in the body does this medication act on?
h. If your medication
a.) Trade name - Bayer Aspirin
Picture -
b.) Generic name - aspirin
c.) CAS number - 50-78-2
d.) Aspirin is often used as an analgesic to relieve minor aches and pains, as an antipyretic to reduce fever, and as an anti-inflammatory medication. It is also used to help prevent heart attacks, strokes, and blood clot formation in people at risk of developing blood clots.
e.)
f.) aspirin is an aromatic compound having functional groups - carboxylic acid and ester.
g.) Aspirin irreversibly inhibits COX-1 and modifies the enzymatic activity of COX-2, which results in suppression in the production of prostaglandins and thromboxanes.
h.)none
i.) there are natural alternatives to aspirin like tumeric/curcumin. They offer faster pain relief from inflammation. I would prefer the use of natural remedies as they do result in cure of diseases. The medicinal properties of tumeric/curcumin have also been scientifically proven. My opinion on "Alternative medicine" is that it can be used as preventive measures against developing a condiiton/disease. Alternative medicine is not scientifically supported.
2) a.) watching tv, cooking, walking. - moderately active day
b.) energy to maintain basic life functions - body weight * 10 = 88 * 10 = 880
for moderately active day, we add 50% to basic energy needed = 1320
c.) 60% of total calories should be carbohydrates,20% protein and 20% fat
d.) Breakfast Egg Whites - 1 large egg white, Milk - 1 cup milk,
Water - 1 cup (8 fl oz) water. For lunch meal, Broccoli - 1 cup
chopped broccoli, ChickenBreast - 1 large breast, Sweet Potato - 1
Sweet Potato, Water - 16 fl oz Bottled Water. For dinner, Broccoli
- 1 cup chopped broccoli, Brown Rice - 1/4 cup Whole Grain Brown
Rice, Burger King - Minute Maid Light Lemonade 16 Fl Oz, Steak - 1

With all the food items consumed during the day using this
1300-calorie meal plan, total caloric consumption added to 1320
which is perfectly within the limit of this 1300-calorie meal
plan.
