Resettling in the US, how were the challenges faced by Cambodian refugees different economically and socially from the challenges faced by the first wave of Vietnamese refugees?
Cambodians entered in U.S as refugees after a batch of Cambodian Communists , won the civil war which raged from 1970 of march to 1975 of april & began to rule the country along the brutality. They destructued all major institutions in the country. About 1.7 million of people out of 7.9 million died from disease, injuries, executions, hunger, coerced labor, and exposure to the elements. the second civil war erupted later on with the Thai-Cambodian border set against the rump Khmer Rouge in opposite to twobatch of non-communist combatants. however, fighting between themselves, all 3 groups were against the new Cambodian govt which was controlled and supported by Vietnam. When thousands of Cambodians, with Vietnamese and Laotians , displayed up at the Border of Thai-Cambodian to look refuge in Thailand, the Thai govt & military did not welcome them. Thailand had treated the Cambodians harshly for reasons which is linked to the concerns of Thai officials about internal security of their country.
