When we study the effects of chronic stress on human health, most of our chronic stress is imaginary, meaning, it's made up by our imagination and conscious thought, created by the Frontal lobe. Discuss, why frogs and lizards cannot experience chronic stress like that? Please write as much information as possible.

Expert Solution

Chronic stress is a feeling one person suffers for a long-term, for example, being in exam week, paying phone bill on time, being with sick loved one.

The Pre-Frontal Cortex (PFC), which is the cerebral cortex which covers the front part of the frontal lobe, is the site where reasoning and understanding happens. . The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) is responsible for planning approaches and sequences of behavior that are required for goal-directed behavior. This process is critical to the broad realm of executive function, and requires both learning and implementing the rules of behavior that lead to success, as well as modifying those rules as necessary.

Frogs and lizards don’t have a prefrontal cortex, but their brain isn’t really structured much like a mammalian brain at all. Different parts of it handle different functions from where things are situated in mammals.

What the lizards are having is the limbic system which is the seat of emotion, addiction, mood, and lots of other mental and emotional processes. It is the part of the brain that is phylogenetically very primitive. Many people call it “The Lizard Brain” because the limbic system is about all a lizard has for brain function. It is in charge of fight, flight, feeding, fear, freezing-up, and fornication.

This part of the brain responsible for survival, our amygdala, an almond-shaped area at the base of our brain way down deep and part of our limbic system, is otherwise known as “fight or flight central”.
