When stress is high, our bodies kick out several stress hormones which, if not used for their purpose (fight or flight) they tend to wreak havoc on various organs and the immune system. Physical exercise is considered the best way to keep our body in balance. Exercise does not have to be all that hard or time consuming. We just need to make time to exercise. Mark Twaine said “Oh, I get the urge to exercise every now and then, but I just lie down till it goes away.” Knowing that this is not the right response, please explain what do you do to motivate yourself when you are less than inspired to get up and out the door?
To motivate myself to get up and exercise, I think of all the unpleasant things which can happen to me if I do not do it. I have a pretty stressful life and job, so even though I do something to relieve myself such as watching a laughter show, being with friends, effects of stress just does not go away. It stays for long periods. Hormones have to be released and full body circulation of blood has to take place to balance things which stress has ruined. The possible way is physical exercise, it doesn't have to be a high intensity training or weight lifting. Simple exercise would do. I used to do few times a month, as I wanted to maintain weight (which increased due to stress). Since I was very irregular, many symptoms popped up, like full pimples on my face, totally ruining it. Also came poor appetite and metabolism. To solve my health problems I had to exercise. The only thing which motivates me is the unpleasant consequence of not doing it (being with pimples, abnormal weight, hair loss etc). I do not want to be this way (I hate myself now) and to gain my old self, I have religiously started exercising.
