Please explain how the perceptions of women’s intellectual and leadership abilities may influence their workplace experiences. Are women perceived as equally able to do their jobs? Please use specific examples and research to support your argument.

Despite evidence that men are typically perceived as more appropriate and effective than women in leadership positions are merely held in the hands of males. Although the proportion of women in the workplace has increased remarkably within the past few decades, women remain vastly underrepresented at the highest organizational levels (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2011)
While, more women have gravitated into leadership positions, there is still a need to study the difference men and women experience at workplace, since these may impact females employment opportunities too.
1. Stereotypes are “generalized beliefs about social groups”. One of the main stereotype that women go through at a work place is gender. In fact, many societal sex-role stereotypes exist against women that result in the stereotype that women are unsuitable for leadership positions. These stereotypes include that women are weak, passive and dependent. For example, Rosen and Jerdee (1974) explained how male administrators feel that women are well-equipped to handle organizational housekeeping work; however, they feel that women lack the stability, toughness, dedication, and judgment required for success in leadership positions, which are typically held by males.
2. Ironically, even women may adopt negative beliefs of female leaders under certain circumstances. And thus one may suffer problems at work that might be ingested due to lack of support from other women. Thus we can say that sometimes women's own thought process have been bounded to some extent by their surroundings.
3. Data show that men win more promotions, more challenging assignments and more access to top leaders than women do. In today's workforce, women make up 46% of the entry-level group — but only a handful (if any) make it to the C-Suite.
4. Women also might go through eve teasing at workplace which inhibits women to work.
Even in bollywood industry actresses do not get equally paid as heros. So we see another problem if women are given a chance to perform same as men then too they are not paid equally as men. So we can say that men and women go through various experience from the appointment in a job to promotion, to payment they recieve for same work. Although efforts are being made to bring equality among men and women at workplace.
