Hamza has been diagnosed with depression. He is currently looking at various therapies and outlets for treatment. He comes to you since he knows that you are in a psychology class and asks for your advice about what type of therapy he should receive? Which type do you recommend? Why? Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest and can interfere with daily functioning. Coginitive therapy can be an effective way to defuse the depression. it provides a mental tool kit that can be used to challenge negative thoughts.
Studies have shown that coginitive therapy works at least as well as antidepressants in helping people with mild to moderate depression. Depression is maintained by constant negative thoughts , these thoughts are known as automatic thoughts. With coginite therapy, a person can learns to recognise and correct negative automatic thoughts.
