Analyze symbols for the United States
Choose two symbols (remember, symbols can be MANY things) prevalent in the United States. For each, explain:
1. Who is likely to have a “symbolic predisposition” toward it. How does this predisposition manifest itself?
2.What ideology incorporates this symbol?
Example: The American Flag is a symbol that represents the United States of America in international settings. American citizens are predisposed toward its meaning. It carries a sense of pride for man; while others see it as a symbol to redress government (i.e., by burning it or flying it upside-down). Immigrants often are predisposed to it as well: seeing it as a beacon of hope for a better life. Many groups and ideologies incorporate the flag. Nationalistic ideologies (e.g., militias, political ideologies, militarism) espouse the flag as their chief symbol.
The Bald Eagle-
The bald eagle is a national emblem of America. The bald eagle is a symbol of power and strength it represent the strength of American society to the world. The eagle always been as a symbol of power while American bald eagle carries strength as well as nationality and justice.
American society formed by power and unity so that bald eagle symbolize American philosophy and collective thinking. The world predisposed to it as well to see the hope and trust.
The Star spangled banner-
The Star Spangled banner is the national anthem of great country, it is a symbol of hope and fight for rights and challenges. The America was formed by a long period war against contemporary super power, the anthem is a symbol of national pride and individual rights. For immigrants this song symbolize nationalism and unity. The anthem also shows will power and commitment of American society.
The lyrics tells us a will and social commitment for country, community and peace in the rest of world.
