You should praise children when they show extrordinary values like helping someone or when they have achieved something and should not praise or reward them when they got something by hurting someone else or they didn't put efforts to get something. You should never praise or reward them to such an extent that they get a feeling of superiority over others.

Intrinsic motivation is when you are motivated internally to do something because you like doing it. Extrinsic motivation is when you do something because others motivate you to do it. Giving rewards to children plays a part in intrinsic motivation as well. They start feeling that they are getting good results what the good that they had done and they start doing it more. They evestart liking the deeds that they got rewards for and this develops their intrinsic motivation.
