Medical ethics involve examining a specific problem, usually a clinical case and using values, facts and logic to decide what best course of action should be .Doctors generally face many ethical problems even in a small medical practices. Major ethical problems are like accepting money from pharmaceutical, getting romantically involved with a patient, upcoding to get treatment, delaying the treatment to meet arganization budget,prescribing a placebo and soon.
The medical ethics what a doctor can follow are, doing good for the patient, by not harming the patient, giving him confidence that he will take care of him. Basically speaking the patients have the full rights to determine their own health care. The doctors should be truth-telling, transparant, showing respect to patients own values.The very important ethics is a doctor should exhibit good listening skills, beacause many ethical disputes results for not knowing the facts.
A physician shall always uphold the dignity and honour of his/her profession, because their prime objective is to render the service to humanity. For a doctor reward and financial gain is a secondary consideration. Doctors should always improve their knowledge and skills to cope up with the present diseases and should be available to the patients all the time. Every physician should maintain register and medical records of patients, authorized attendant or legal authorities involved, which should be duly acknowledge .
There are some compulsory duties of a doctor like notofication of births and deaths, reporting suicide cases, responding to the call for emergency , military services, cases of poisoning. There are some voluntary duties like to conduct postmortem examinations, issuing medicak certificates, to inspect prisons, to attend accident cases, to conduct medocolegal examinations..
Unetical acts involves like practice of euthanasia, running an open medical shop, advertising, rebates and commission, violating the existing ICMR guidelines, claiming as a doctor when do not have a pspecial qualification, doing sex determining testa, not maintaining medical records and soon.
