Describe an issue you have had with an employer that is mentioned in the chapters. It could be lack of due process when terminated, discrimination, lack of equal pay, etc. If it is too personal or you do not have an example, find one on the web or ask a friend. "Employee SH Workplace Issues" and "Employee SH Diversity and Discrimination"
For example: I wanted to work at the cannery when I was in college and was told I couldn't have the well-paid cleaning job because that was only for men. When I asked which parts of the job could not be done by women, they said they didn't really know but it had always been that way. They did give me a job on the conveyer belt. This was a form of probably both disparate treatment (to me because I was denied the job and told it was because I wasn't a man) and disparate impact maybe too (because there were no women in that position, it was a well-paid role at the cannery and therefore, women in general probably were impacted because they received lower pay and opportunity overall at the cannery).
The issue that I will mention was about the lack of equal pay which happened with one of my friends. So, two of my friends started working in the same construction company after our college ended. It was going well but after some time the company went into a huge loss due to a change of management and had to ask some of the employees to leave the firm in order to control costs. Unfortunately, both my friends were asked to leave the firm. It was a very tough time for them. They started looking out for other jobs and gave multiple interviews. The male friend of mine got a job in a relatively new and small construction company. After a few weeks, when he liked the work culture and people of the firm, he suggested the other female friend of ours apply in the same company. She was called for an interview and it went well. They were happy with her performance and were ready to hire her. But when the salary negotiation part came, she realized they were offering a very little package as compared to our male friend and industry standards, although both of them had the same level of experience. When questioned, she was told that it was a tough job and would require fieldwork as well, therefore men are paid more than the women for the same post. She realized it wasn't the kind of people she would want to work for, hence she did not take up the offer and later got a much better opportunity in a bigger firm.
