Difference between Windows and Linux server
- Windows server gives a Remote Desktop Access, which is a GUI,
so working on that is easier compared to linux server, which is
command line based.
- Linux server is open-source and generally uses fewer resources,
thus making the system the more efficient as compared to Windows
server.
- Linux server being open-source, is cost saving than windows
server, user does not need to pay related to operating system.
- Windows applications (eg. Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Access) are
designed to integrate with Windows servers, which makes Windows
servers more valuable than Linux Server.

Advantages of Windows Operating System
- Easy to use because of available GUI
- Huge collection of softwares available
- Compatibility with MS driven websites
- Users can play heavy GUI based games.
Disadvantages of Windows Operating System
- Compared to other OSs, Windows OS's security is weak. Nearly
all computer viruses target Windows OS.
- Windows is not open-source, and for that, a lot of performance
customization cannot be done. Also one needs to buy the OS or
License.
- Windows uses plenty resources like fast processor, larger RAM
and and hard-disk, thus making the system the less efficient as
compared to other OSs.
Advantages of Linux Operating System
- Being open source its set up cost is very low if not zero, as
for almost every software used in Linux OS no need to buy
licenses
- Linux is the most secure OS (eg. File ownership and permissions
are one of the many ideas that make linux OS secure). Also, this OS
is free from the attacks of computer viruses.
- Linux provides strong support for network functionality; on any
computer running Linux, client and server systems can be easily set
up.
Disadvantages of Linux Operating System
- Since Linux does not widely used like Windows, this OS has some
drawbacks, like, difficult to find exact applications user needs,
also the applications available are not very robust.
- Hardware manufacturers usually create Windows drivers, but not
all companies create Linux drivers.
- As compared to Windows or Mac technical support, Linux does not
have any. It still depends on the question-answers over public
forums mostly.
