Nursing is always been considered as a noble profession.and empathy is always the key principle that makes nursing differ from other professions.everyone feels bad about someone suffering from a illness but being their by understanding what that person wants is the key to succeed as a good nurse.

Understanding emotions of the patient and their families and helps them to get through this hard time is the prime important step.a good communication between nurses and patient is essential for the successful outcome of individualized nursing care of each patient.

Communication : exchange of thoughts, information and feelings among people using speech or other means.

Therapeutic communication : face to face process of interacting that focus on advancing the physical and emotional well-being of a patient.

Techniques of therapeutic communication:

• Using silence: at times it's useful not to speak which gives patient and nurse to think.

Accepting: giving affirmation that they have been heard.

• Offering self:nurse should offer their time,it shows nurse values them and some one is giving time and attention.
• Giving broad opening: talk about topics which gaves the patient to talk freely.
• Active listening: listen to what patient say before instructing them.
• Seeking clarification: when patient says something confusing or ambiguos.

Understanding of patient and the experiences they express.it requires skills and simultaneously sincere intention of nurse to understands what concerns the patient.and therapeutic communication is clearly based on this principle.

There are some other things to remember when establishing a therapeutic relationship with patient.

• Assessing verbal and non verbal communication needs.
• Allow the client enough time to communicate.
• Respect clients personal values and believes.
• Encourage client to verbalize feelings
• Constantly evaluate the effectiveness of communication.

To achieve a good outcome of individualized nursing care of each patient, nurse must understand and help their patients, demonstrating courtesy, kindness and sincerity.maintaining confidentiality is also important.good communication is not only based on physical abilities of the nurse but also on education and experience.

The recent senerio of covid 19 pademic can be taken as an example for nurses understanding of emotion and human communication.

In a condition like a pandemic nurses are the frontliners in the prevention and controlling of the disease.patients needs to be identified early and quarantined immediately to avoid further spread.

Patient who is in the isolation or those who are tested positive will be going through a difficult time.the risk of social stigma is always there.so it is the important job of the nurse to be with the patient to explain what he /she is going through and why he/she is kept separate.also as a nurse public should be educated that they have to follow the instructions and learn about the condition to avoid these problems.
