Yes, I believe that drug testing of an employee is necessary, the federal law allows to test employees based on drug consumption but in some states this is illegal. I believe that drug testing is fair and justified because if the employee is consuming illegal substances even after employment then it may actually affect the organization legally in case of issues. A urine test will ensure residue in the body and traces of any illegal substances should lead to termination, I personally believe that organizations should be strict in this aspect and should promote an environment free from substance abuse.

The basic advantage of drug testing is that employees can actually decipher employees who are consuming drugs and should be monitored based on their action and the disadvantage is that it intrudes into employee privacy. Drug testing post employment is generally conducted in case of accidents to know that if the factor is alcohol or any drugs, employers conduct such tests before employment and even if they feel there is a need based on the behavior of the employee. This may intrude privacy of an employee but I believe that it is a responsibility of the organizations. Employees need to have basic privacy in an organization and the employer should be sensitive about it so they they do not intrude into the public space of the employees like locker room, drawers, etc. but many employers access internet browsing history, mail communication, etc. Which may nit ethical to some extent
