Functional Behavior Assessment is a
method of analysing problem behaviors of the children mostly in the
educational set up. The problem behaviors typically prevent the
children from performing well in academic as well as finds it hard
to cope with other programmes in the school too. It uses three
kinds of data collection methods.
Indirect Observational Data includes collecting information from
all those who are directly connected to the child such as parents,
friends, teachers etc. through interviews, surveys, forms etc.
Direct Observational Data includes interviewing the child, using
questionnaires, introspection etc. in order to know things from the
child itself. Experimental Observational Data.
One of the difficulty with FBA data collection is that it has to
collect data from various people, compile it in order to identify
the behavior. All the data should match each other so that there
would be no ambiguity. It's not just about identifying the behavior
but designing intervention program, it's duration, design
reinforcement time schedule and reinforcement amount.
