Rhetorical methods are the methods used for writing which makes
the speech or write-up effective and influencing for the people.
Using a language effectively is the art of rhetoric. It is an
ability to write or speak in an effective manner. The rhetorical
methods of development are the different steps taken to write
different styles of non-fiction writing. Some of the rhetorical
methods or modes are:
1. Narration
2. Description
3. Exemplification
4. Definition
5. Process Analysis
6 Classification and Division
7. Comparison and Contrast
8. Cause-and-effect .
9. Problem and solution
For writing any basic Essay the rhetorical methods which are to be used are description, definition, comparison and contrast, cause and effect and problem and solution. An essay starts with the introduction of the topic given. It moves on with the description and definition of the topic to make clear the topic on which the essay is been written up. If the essay is related to any social issue or a matter of concern, the essay needs to have the comparison and contrast with causes and effect also. The end of the essay comprises of the solution given to the problem which is to be mentioned in the essay. The writer’s point of view needs to linger throughout the essay if it asks to give the opinion or view either for or against the issue.
A thesis is a well build argument which is supported by evidence to prove the point. Interpretation, Precision, and Surprise are the three important elements of a thesis statement. Interpretation is the brief explanation of the facts and their significance in the thesis. It shows the cause and effect of the argument and answers the question ‘why?’ Precision is the brief and apt use of facts which makes clear sense of the topics and the argument. Too much fact in a thesis spoils the thesis. Only important facts need to put up in the thesis. A thesis ought to present such arguments which can change the perception and think of the reader. It should persuade and inform the reader about the argument to the reader.
A well-developed paragraph contains four important characteristics
which are unity, order, coherence, and completeness. The first
sentence of the paragraph should explain the topic of the paragraph
precisely. The introductory sentence should be influencing and
should contribute to the idea of the paragraph. Unity in idea and
sentences are a key factor in writing well-developed paragraph.
Order in the sentences according to their matter of concern and
importance should be written respectively. Clear and coherence in
the sentence makes the ideas clear to the reader and makes the
essay much effective. Completion of the topic should form the end
of the paragraph so as to give a clear end to the topic.
