In the article "China in the World: An Anthroplology of Confucius Institutes, Soft Power and Globalization", In the statement 'One teacher, for instance insists that her perspective on Marxism has to do with her upbringing in China, which provides different understanding of the concept'. please explain why Marxism provides different understanding of the concept to American students? (subject- Asia 100)
Marxism suggests that the society is in a perpetual conflict for the limited resources available where social order is maintained not through consensus but through domination. This would mean that the society is stratified in which the majority would control most of the resources and power in a capitalistic society while using the same to discriminate others. This is not the same concept about life and opportunities available for the Americans since they are directed toward the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness by insisting that everyone has fair opportunity and equal rights to achieve the highest social status. In reality, this is not true because the powerful and the rich present the world a different America that facilitates equal treatment and equal opportunities. Thus, people in different parts of the world would view the same event differently because communism or socialism and capitalism are two extremes that thrive on different ideologies.
