Solutions

Expert Solution

The basidiomycota fungi was not sexually reproducing at the time of study, when non sexually reproducing the sampled part of the fungi was hyphae . Hyphae is the filament like structure which form the body of the fungi,in basidiomycota fungi the hyphae is septate and monokaryotic or primary. (Hyphae or mycelium is one of the character we consider at the time of fungal classification apart from the sexual reproduction )

The answer cannot be basidiospore as question mentioned that fungi was not sexually reproducing at that time and basidiospore is a sexual spore.

We can also consider spore in that case but the spore must be conidia (asexual spore ) which is produced by special hyphae known as conidiophore.

The answer cannot be tendril as it is a structure associated with angiosperms.

It cannot be ascogonium because it is a sexual reproductive structure of fungi.

The answer cannot be mycorrhizae as it denotes symbiotic relationship between fungi and roots of higher plants.

compare and contrast the biology of a sexually reproducing organism with another asexually reproducing organism. Or alternatively, find an organism that makes use of both forms of reproduction. For each organism, describe how their reproductive system works and speculate what environmental or social factors might influence this reproductive strategy. For at least one organism, you should also post a link to a popular science article/Wikipedia entry/ and/or video for your classmates to check out. (200-300 words)

Explain the advantages and disadvantages of populations of sexually reproducing organisms over populations of asexually reproducing organisms. Also, include the following in your original post: • Address this from a molecular perspective as well as from a larger, environmental perspective. • Describe the two events that are common to all sexually reproducing organisms and how they fit into the different life cycles of those organisms. • Highlight three specific examples of reproduction from your text.
