Budget means estimating the future revenues and probable expenditure to be incurred in earning the income. The budget is an instrument to the management in planning and controlling. Importance of the budget in strategic and operational planning of the company can be understood from following :- |
- It enables the management of the company to conducts its business in an efficient manner. |
- It is a tool used by companies for the control of their expenses and costs. |
- It provides a yardstick for evaluating the performance of individuals and departments. |
- Effective Utilisation of various resources like labour, material and machinery is possible as the activities are pre-planned. |
- It helps in review of the current trends and framing the future policies of the company. |
- It promotes better understanding and coordination between the departments in achieving the targets fixed by the company. |
- It reveals the deviation to the management from the budgeted figures upon comparison to the management. |
Hence, a budget is an essential document in achieving an overall objective of the organisation. |
