What to Do
Please select from any one of the following activities. Make sure you answer all components of the question.
1. Herbert Spencer is credited with developing the “survival of the fittest” concept and the philosophic approach known as Social Darwinism. The idea behind this approach was societies evolve from primitive to civilized societies and that to help primitive societies interferes with the natural process of either evolving or becoming extinct. For example, nations like the United States have for decades intervened in sub-Saharan African countries in an attempt to fight AIDS and end poverty with little success. Discuss your thoughts on this subject and whether or not aid to poor societies actually helps them or simply creates dependency?
2. To understand peoples’ behavior, sociologists look at their social location in society. For this assignment, you will need to identify the corners in life you occupy by describing your job, income, education, gender, age, and race/ethnicity. Explain how each of these elements influences your self-concept and behavior. Does your social location impact you when you go out (i.e., socially or romantically)? When it comes to life chances and opportunities? Do you experience discrimination?
Presentation is the demonstration of a topic to an audience with the help of different presentation software such as power point which is the most widely used or just verbally without these software such as giving a speech in any formal or informal occasions with an idea to effectively pass on the message to the larger audience.
In any way to make sure that the presentation makes the maximum impact and is effective we need both the verbal skills and good presentation skills.Incorporating visual aids is definetly a proven and most effective way to make the presentation more eloquent for a simple reason that when we see a picture of something it remains in our mind for longer period of time than when it is in a written format because human mind favours pictures over text. Interesting visuals can not only save your time that goes in making the presentation but it helps to draw the attention of the listeners and makes sure that they are not bored from the information provided.
While explaining mathematical figures or statistical information visual aids such as graphs and charts enables the listeners to understand complex correlations between variables.Researches have also shown that interesting posters with less textual data connects better with peoples emotions and motivates them to actively participate. Therefore, it can be of great help if the presentation is meant for a social cause or to spread awareness about an issue such as conserving water etc.Considering so many positive effects that visuals can have on an individuals mind and the fact that it is mutually advantageous as it improves the communication skills of a person delivering the presentation it is best and often adviced to include attractive visuals where ever possible in the presentation.
