Genetic variability in sexually reproducing organisms arises within
a) crossover events between nonsister chromatids.
b) crossover events between sister chromatids.
c) egg and sperm genetic recombination from distinct individuals.
d) egg and sperm genetic recombination from an individual.
e) none of the alternatives
a-During Meiosis,in Prophase-1, crossing over occures between homologous portions of Two Non-sister chromatids. The exchange of segments of DNA(genes) produces recombinant chromosomes at the exchange places(called as Chiasmata). This process of pairing of Homologous chromosomes is called Synapsis. The swapping of alleles between the Homologous chromosomes produces infinite new combinations of alleles and they are passed down to offspring producing Genetic variability.
