The challenges that non-English speakers face in schools,
workplace or in their daily life are;
- Many adult non- English speakers are
reluctant to learn a new language at their age. This creates a lot
of problem for them.
- The non-English
speakers find hard to get good jobs and they are compelled to take
up low wage works because of the language barrier. They find it
difficult to make the ends meet.
- They find it
difficulty in filling out applications for jobs, health insurances.
They also find difficulty in interacting with other English
speakers of their locality or work force. Thus, it becomes a social
barrier for them.
- Require
translators to understand the court proceedings, and these
translators do not come in cheap rate.
- There are numerous
English language training programs but, most of them find
difficulty to enroll themselves because of their family and
workplace responsibility.
- Children face
bullying and discrimination at schools due to the effect of their
mother tongue while speaking English.
- Students find it
difficult to follow the classes that are taught in English, and
hence, the outcomes of education are not met by them.
Thus, non-English
speakers face social, economic and psychological challenges in
their day-to-day life and in various circumstances of their life.
Though, they have opportunities to learn English, but, the economic
conditions, and their social and personal responsibilities acts as
the barriers to learn the language.
