What is a sexual dysfunction?
Sexual dysfunction is also known as sexual malfunction. It refers to any kind of difficulty by individuals or couples during a phase of normal sexual activity. It is a disorder also listed in DSM 5. According to this the disorder would be diagnosed if a person faces extreme levels of distress and strain at interpersonal level without any other medicinal or substantial cause of it. It changes the sexual perception if the patient. It may also include the sexual preference of a person. It is associated with high levels of anxiety, stress , guilt and worry. It is generally explained in terms of general sexual response cycle of human beings. It has four types: sexual arousal disprder, pain disorder, orgasm disorder and sexual desire disorder. The emotional causes of the disorder are depression, traumatic sexual experience, guilt and anxiety. It is highly common with people having anxiety disorders specially panic disorder. The physical causes of the disorder would include excess substance abuse of drugs or alcohol, back pains or other back related issues, issues with the reproductive organs, menopause in females, problems with prostrate glands as well as problems in nerve impulses and transmission of blood.
