purpose: To familiarize yourself with the law library system and website.

Course Outcome:   You will be able to apply research rules and techniques using web based legal online research.

Program Outcome: You will demonstrate critical thinking skills to prioritize, anticipate and analyze problems, and then to evaluate and implement solutions.

Go to either the Pierce County Law Library or the King County Law Library website and look around then answer the following questions. (2 points each)

• What kinds of information can you find?
• Is the information all free?
• Are there continuing legal education courses available (CLE's)? Are there any offered for paralegals?
• Would this be a site you would go to for in-depth legal research? Why or why not?
• Does the website offer research assistance? What fees do they charge for the service?

1. Information found on the website

The King County Law Library(KCCL) offers a wide variety of services such as document delivery, KCCL packet requests, family Law packet requests etc for everyone and they offer research assistance services only for their subscribers. It also provides certain information about upcoming workshops, some classes for those who wish to register etc. From this website, we can refer to their catalogue from which we can find information about the books in the library.

2. All the information are not free and are paid. For example, if we need document delivery services, then we have to pay about $25 per citation for non-subscribers and $20 for subscribers. The annual subscription involves 3 free document deliveries per year.

3. Continuing Legal Education: I think that they do not offer any continuing legal education. But they provide classes for those who wish to register.

4. Paralegals: They do not provide paralegal services.

5. This site can be used for in-depth legal research. Because, they offer the document delivery services which includes citations from either of their paper collection or from their extensive legal databases. Also, there is a huge catalogue of books from which we can select from.

6. This website offers research assistance service for its users. For this service, they charge about 100$ per hour in 15-minute increments. Through this service, attorneys can hand off their research questions to their skilled reference staff and they will provide a research memorandum.
