Describe two program transitions that occur in early childhood and discuss how they differ.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer- Transition refers to change. Mainly, there are three types of transitions which occur in early childhood known as transitions between activities, transitions between multiple settings and transitions between programs. The meaning and difference between the first two types of transitions may be described with the help of the following points-

  • Transitions between activites- Young children and their parents may experience different types of transitions while receiving early childhood education services. Some program transitions between activities include movement to and from special classes like art and music, gross motor activities and lunch. Sometimes these activities become difficult for children, especially for the children with disabilities. For removing these problems, a teacher needs to plan all the activities in a strategic manner. Teachers should provide support to children during transitions.
  • Transitions between multiple settings- An effective transition requires careful planning and clear understanding of children's social, emotional and intellectual needs. There are some children who attend multiple settings during the entire day. For these children, teachers and guides should work in partnership and exchange information with one another. Practioners should give chances to children to share their concerns. Each child needs to be supported sensitively by all teachers and mentors throughout the transition process.
