The development of language is critically important in early childhood. Discuss some examples of key normative
milestones (i.e., a child should be able to ______ around age _____) with respect to language acquisition in the first 3 years.
Developing language skills is very important for children at the beginning of their age because it greatly reflects on the later part of their life. It also helps them as social beings and in their academic life as well. Children start to learn the language right from their birth. Language development is a must for a child as it helps them to exchange information with others. Language is the base for all kinds of social interaction. And not teaching proper language skills in the early childhood age can lead to having problems in communication later on. This can lead to frustration for both parents and the child as well.
Some examples of key normative milestones with respect to language acquisition in the first 3 years are as follows:
1. They understand and follow instructions with 2 parts. For example: (Sit down there. Play with her)
2. By 2 years the vocabulary is 250-300 words and they understand action words like go, run, walk etc.
3. They speak sentences that have a minimum of 2-3 words. (e.g. Mom, come here).
