Will combining Thr and Phe into the dipeptide Thr-Phe will release a molecule of water?
Please show work, thank you!
Hi,
Phenylalanyl-Threonine is a dipeptide composed of phenylalanine and threonine. It is an incomplete breakdown product of protein digestion or protein catabolism. Some dipeptides are known to have physiological or cell-signaling effects although most are simply short-lived intermediates on their way to specific amino acid degradation pathways following further proteolysis. This dipeptide has not yet been identified in human tissues or biofluids and so it is classified as an 'Expected' metabolite. Yes combining Phenylalanine and threonine will result in formation of dipeptide and release of water molecule as shown in below structures |
Structure of dipeptide (Phenylalanyl-Threonine; Molecular weight: 266) Structure of Threonine; Molecular weight: 119 Structure of Phenylalanine , Molecular weight: 165 Looking at the individual structures of threonine and phenylaline, it is clear that, Threonine looses the -H group while phenylalanine looses -OH group to release water to form thr-phe dipeptide |
