Does Khan-Cullors tell a fuller mission of Black Lives Matter than what is commonly portrayed in mainstream media?
Black Lives Matter is a movement that started in 2013 when the police brutality against the African-American came out and Khan-Cullors used the hashtag of Black Lives Matter. The disobedience of the cops hurt many and it was Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors who expanded it into a larger platform and people started taking this issue seriously. The murders of innocent people like Michael Brown, Eric Garner due to the racist factor was completely unacceptable. Patrisse Cullor is one of the co-founders of BLM and she is a motivational speaker as well as an author. According to her, living a life with dignity and respect is everyone's right and for that the organization of this movement was important. In the coming year, this issue got more relevant and recently it has got support from millions of people around the world. It gained national recognition while they were demonstrating after the 2014 killings of Michael Brown and Eric Garner where police were involved. Later, many other issues like, LGBTQ, gender issues coupled into it. Cullors herself talks for the LGBTQ community. She, being an activist, struggled a lot at the initial stages of her life. She shared, how she gathers the courage to bring people together into this. Her brother's sufferings also encouraged her to seek justice. She is a freedom fighter in a true sense. She used to live in a public house in Los Angeles and her experiences regarding that was indeed full of hardships.She argues about a lot of burning topics and the specific disadvantages that black people get. She told that she found peace in her extended family which she mad. Though people are gaining profits but her motive was great.
