Black Lives Matter is an organized, civil disobedient and non violent movement protesting against the police brutality towards the African-American people. This began on 2013 using the hashtag "#BlacklivesMatter" on social media following George Zimmerman 's acquittal in the February 2012 shooting death of African-American teen Trayvon Martin.Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the United States, UK , and Canada whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in state-inflicted and vigilante violence against Black communities.

BLM generally engages in tactics of direct action which make people uncomfortable enough to address the problem. BLM was known to build power through protests and rallies. On February 2020, Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed 25-year-old African-American man, was shot to death while jogging in Georgia. He was confronted and shot by three white men. On March 13, police knocked down the door of Breonna Taylor,26, serving a warrant for drug supisions and open fired which led to her death. These led to over 450 protests all over America. The breaking point was largely attributed to the police killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, subsequently charged with second degree murder after a video circulated showing Chauvin lying on Floyd's back for almost nine minutes as Floyd begged for his life, saying, "I can't breathe." This has led to protests all over the world and America from may 30 onwards.Following the requests of the protesters for further trials, three other officers have been charged with aiding and facilitating second degree murder.More and more people are now acknowledging the fact about racial divide and coming forward in support of the movement. The protests against the prejudice is being taken up by the whole world .

It has been widely reported that amidst the protests that are taking place related to Black Lives Matter, looting has gone up in a wide scale. Various reports of looting and destruction of property is being done behind this just cause. This has caused an end to people who rely on these shops as their source of income to redact their support from the movement. At protests today, it is difficult to distinguish legitimate activists from the mob actors who burn and loot. The movement has been met with heavy criticism for their tactics. The fact that a large number of leaders and affiliates are still involved in aggressive activities that are completely counterproductive to what they are trying to accomplish. Though the racial divide is still a gaping hole in the community, it doesn't stop people from acknowledging the fact about he methods that the front runners of civil rights movement, Martin Luther King had opted five decades ago. The destruction of property, frequent burnings of American flags and violent actions against both civilians and law enforcement have not only been counterproductive to the Black Lives Matter movement's supposed intent, but also painted a image of them in the nation's eyes that they are doing nothing to alter.
