Handling work issues:
Existing staff issues – No body works there – high degree of poor performance
Assumptions made in order to address the work issues:
Goal:
Convert Withdrawal behavior into citizenship behavior
Hold regular meeting, motivate the employees
Look for the positive qualities in the employees
Help to take regular but short and sweet breaks
Every job is important – there is no such thing as high profile job and low profile job – in other words, the job of a data entry operator is as important as the job of the Senior Project Manager
Organization Behavior Concepts:
Productivity, quality, team work, Build cordial relationships for mutual benefit; set realistic, challenging, and accurate goals; Punctuality (benefits for being punctual); diversification of the workforce; Participative leadership style; Performance bonus, incentive, perks, appraisals, praising the out performers in employee meetings;
We will take few concepts and write 100 words per concept:
Concept 1: Build cordial relationships for mutual benefit:
Humility is better than exercising power and bossing over your subordinates
Try to build one on one relationship with the employees and me, the manager;
Listen to their grievances with a 3rd ear;
Resolve conflicts or at least manage it for a while till resolution happens
Nurture a healthy work environment and foster the employee welfare – provide club house, sports, swim pool facilities and encourage them to lead a healthy life style – Sound mind in Sound body –
Concept 2: How to set goals and what we get out of it:
I will not set the goals as vague and easy – nobody will like it
Rather, I will go through the Vision and mission of the company, involve my employees, my department and team members, conduct a brain storming session, and arrive at a list of goals and objectives
The purpose of goals and objectives will be to meet out the mission and vision of the organization
I will make sure that the goals are challenging, quantifiable (measurable), and very precisely stated with at most accuracy
only such goals will be liked by the employees
In this way, I can push my employees to a better production, they know some target to aim at
Measurement, monitoring, appraisal:
I will watch over their shoulders, and make sure they are on the right track
I will provide constructive feedback to make sure that they are achieving the goals.
Concept 3: Style of management:
I will try to follow participative leadership style in this situation – I will ask them one by one, face to face, in a private meeting “what is it that is causing them to be slack at work•”
what do they need in order to get motivated and stay so.
What it takes for them to spring off their bed every day morning and think of pulling up their socks to gear up to work
in short, I will do whatever is needed to convert withdrawal behavior into citizenship behavior
E.g. I will announce incentives, performance bonuses, perks, reward for awards, employee of the month award
When nothing works, the age old formula of “carrot and stick” becomes inevitable – in spite of so much carrots like perks, bonuses, incentives, if they still do not perform, I will be forced to use the stick of terminating them and recruiting fresh new better workforce.
Why these decisions are made by me:
Because it helps to boost the employee morale
Why I drew these conclusions:
Because these decisions help to boost productivity
Repercussions means (consequence, problems)
