Here are the three major types of decision-making research
perspectives and their importance:
- The first type is
the exploratory research: It is often done through
observations and adopting methods like interviews or surveys. It
helps to get the initial research for the information and gives an
idea about the decision to be taken.
- Second is the
explanatory type of research: This is based on the
cause-effect relationship of the research. This is deductive in
nature as compared to exploratory research and helps to simplify
the information gained in first stage. It gives an idea to
understand the relationship between various dimensions of a
problem.
- Third research type is the descriptive research which
can support both explanatory and exploratory studies. This covers
more detailed aspect and helps to further expand the preliminary
research.
It is important to understand the three major types of
approaches as:
- it is based on the perspective decided by the researchers.
He/she may be more objective and hence his decision will be made
accordingly.
- The subjective research can also come into the picture where
experiences of research participants will be given more
thrust.
- It is important to understand them as it helps in the
management of control and direction in the entire process.
- It helps to direct the team as it defines the actions steps,
type of motivation, deciding orders and rules etc.
- In control areas, it helps to decide standards, benchmarks,
control point and various procedures.
